came across this song today and remembered it was the first song i produced and mixed completely in LUNA a few years ago.
tracked most of it live in the same room....acoustic guitar, vocals, upright bass, drums played with brushes.
then we overdubbed violin, vibes, organ, piano and some vocals.
artist is the great singer songwriter Emily Rose from Detroit, Michigan.
we recorded this in my band's private studio in Detroit.
martin acoustic guitar was mic'd with a coles 4038 and km84 into daking preamps with a little bit of compression from daking 9179 limiters.
upright bass was AT4047 and a direct from the pickup both through daking preamps, LA2 compressor clone on the direct signal.
drums were AEA r88 stereo ribbon placed close over the kit, bock u195 in front of the kick drum, km84 near hat and snare. sytek and chandler TG2 preamps. i had some oktava mc012 on the toms but they weren't used.
vocals were a stager SR1a large ribbon and neumann u89 together. api 312 preamps.
relative phase adjusted with a little labs IBP, blended down to one track through a manley ELOP limiter. the stager ribbon got the bulk of the vocal tone, with
the u89 adding top end and some of the close ambience.
i had a second AEA R88 stereo ribbon setup between the vocalist/guitarist and the bass player and drummer. a lot of the upright sound and the drum ambience
was that mic.
violin, yamaha grand piano, organ and vibes all overdubbed with coles 4038 and the AEA R88 stereo ribbon was left in the same position it was for the basic tracking and used on each subsequent overdub for ambience.
all tracked into LUNA with an apollo 16. mixed in LUNA using a few plugins. mostly UAD LA2, FATSO, Capitol Chambers reverb, Studer A800. Also had fabfilter EQ and Desser and waves Rcomp and L2.
mix buss processing was UAD ATR tape, Manley Vari Mu, Manley Massive Passive and Softtube's Chandler Germanium compressor.
